The University of Malaga (UMA) joins the Spanish Semiconductor Industry Association (AESEMI) in a new step to unify the ecosystem and boost its growth.
The UMA, founded in 1972, stands out for its commitment to teaching, research and knowledge transfer, promoting collaboration between academia, business and public and private institutions. With more than 252 research groups and more than 30 specialised institutes, the UMA is positioned as a benchmark in the generation of knowledge in areas such as biomedicine, engineering, social sciences and humanities. Its focus on internationalisation and close relationship with the business sector reinforce its role as a driving force for economic and social development.
In its first 50 years, research at the University of Malaga has made quality scientific production possible, with public and private funding, with results that have had an impact both within and beyond our borders.
In the field of semiconductors, the University of Malaga has received the largest public funding of the Chip Chair programme, with 5.5 million euros to become a benchmark in microelectronics. Its project has 13 companies involved and 3 areas of work, being the only one at national level that brings together the analogue, digital and photonic areas.
AESEMI represents the main Spanish companies dedicated to microelectronic design and semiconductor manufacturing. The association’s objectives include promoting the sector at national and international level, giving visibility to all the companies that form part of the Spanish semiconductor and microelectronics technology ecosystem, as well as acting as an interlocutor with the rest of the agents.
