The BSC, Spain’s national supercomputing centre, joins the Spanish Semiconductor Industry Association (AESEMI). The membership will help to boost research and growth within the sector.
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) specialises in high-performance computing (HPC) and manages the MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe. Since its creation in 2005, the BSC has played an active role in promoting HPC in Spain and Europe as an essential tool for international competitiveness in science and engineering. The centre manages the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES) and was a founding and leading member of the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) initiative and now hosts EuroHPC JU, the European initiative leading large-scale investment and provision of HPC in Europe.
BSC research focuses on five fields: Computational Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Computational Applications in Science and Engineering, and Computational Social Sciences and Humanities. Its research lines are developed within the framework of European Union research funding programmes, Spanish and Catalan public research calls and collaborations with leading companies.
AESEMI represents the main Spanish companies dedicated to microelectronic design and semiconductor manufacturing. The association’s objectives include promoting the sector at national and international level and giving visibility to all the companies that form part of the Spanish semiconductor and microelectronics technology ecosystem.
