IESMAT, a company specialising in materials characterisation, joins AESEMI as a collaborator

IESMAT joins the Spanish Semiconductor Industry Association (AESEMI) as a collaborator. The Spanish company has been present in the Spanish market for more than 19 years, with great experience in providing material characterisation solutions.

IESMAT is a leading company in materials characterisation, process control and cleanroom contamination monitoring solutions, providing advanced technology solutions in materials characterisation and process control specific to the semiconductor industry. In particular, in the field of semiconductor technology, where the need for accurate analysis and real-time control is more critical than ever, IESMAT offers a set of solutions designed to address your challenges, ensuring optimal performance for superior quality in manufacturing processes.

Key solutions for semiconductor manufacturing

IESMAT brings together key services for semiconductor manufacturing, including Electron Microscopy, for which it stands out:

  • Atomic Level Structural Analysis: Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) allows visualisation of the crystal structure of semiconductors at the atomic level, detecting defects such as dislocations and vacancies that can affect device performance.
  • Morphological and Topographical Characterisation: Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) provides high-resolution images of semiconductor morphology and topography, essential for assessing the quality of interfaces and thin films in transistors and diodes.
  • Compositional and Chemical Analysis: Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), integrated into electron microscopes, allows the precise identification of the chemical composition of materials, ensuring that they meet the required standards.
  • Innovation in Device Development: Data obtained with electron microscopy is key in the optimisation of heterojunction structures in high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) and in the improvement of thin-film solar cells.

It also offers other services such as the evaluation of nanomaterials, with the characterisation of nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes and nanowires, enabling the study of their structure, electronic properties and behaviour under various conditions, optimising their use in semiconductors. The analysis of porous materials, with nitrogen adsorption and desorption, which allows characterisation of the specific surface area and porous structure of materials, crucial for applications in catalysis, energy storage and gas separation. Thermal conductivity analysis with methods such as MTPS (Modified Transient Plane Source) and TPS (Transient Plane Source) that allow the thermal conductivity of materials to be measured accurately, ensuring their performance in thermal insulation and heat transfer applications. Cleanroom contamination control and monitoring, with particle counters that help monitor particle release from process tools, reducing contamination and ensuring a cleaner and more efficient production environment. Real-time viscosity control and monitoring, as slurry viscosity is a critical factor in semiconductor manufacturing because it affects coating uniformity, process efficiency and electrode performance. IESMAT offers automated solutions for in-line production viscosity measurement, providing real-time data every 1-3 minutes and allowing instantaneous adjustments to ensure product quality. Finally, the optimisation of material distribution and cell assembly, because viscosity is influenced by factors such as particle size and shape, IESMAT provides both laboratory and production solutions, with in-line and at-line measurement, ensuring that the product design meets the required quality standards.

AESEMI was founded in 2021 and represents the main Spanish companies dedicated to microelectronic design and semiconductor manufacturing. One of its objectives is to give visibility to all the entities that form part of the semiconductor technology ecosystem in Spain.
