The Spanish Semiconductor Industry Association (AESEMI) welcomes energHius as a new member. This technology start-up, which originated at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), brings to the national ecosystem a company specialising in ultra-efficient energy management for IoT devices, thus strengthening the value chain of the semiconductor sector. With its incorporation, AESEMI welcomes an innovative player that focuses on unlocking the future of new IoT devices.
Established in 2025 as a spin-off from the USC and emerging from the CiTIUS research centre, energHius is a technology-based company that draws on more than 20 years of experience in the design of customised integrated circuits. Its specialisation covers energy capture at the micrometric scale, the manufacture of ultra-low cold-start circuits and the design of optimised solutions for ultra-low consumption IoT nodes.
The company has developed a technology called ‘NanoStart’, through which its PMU achieves significantly lower power start-up levels than conventional ones — less than one thousandth — opening up possibilities for devices powered by energy harvesting (ambient energy, vibrations, waste heat) in IoT environments, autonomous sensors and other low-power applications.
The energHius approach places technology transfer at the heart of its model: from its academic origins (USC/CiTIUS) to the creation of a fabless company that designs and markets its key product, outsourcing the manufacture of the semiconductors it designs and focusing its value on design innovation, energy efficiency and optimisation for ultra-lightweight IoT.
AESEMI, meanwhile, was founded in 2021 and represents the leading Spanish companies engaged in microelectronic design and semiconductor manufacturing. Among its objectives is to give visibility to all entities that form part of the semiconductor technology ecosystem in Spain, thereby promoting the growth of this industry and enabling large companies to find solutions to meet their decarbonisation and digitalisation commitments, which are relevant to all industries worldwide.
