The Polytechnic University of Cartagena, new member of AESEMI

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) joins the Spanish Semiconductor Industry Association (AESEMI) in a new step to unify a sector in which research and teaching play an essential role.

The activity of the UPCT focuses on education, development of science, technology and culture through study and research. The UPCT was created in 1998 and is therefore the youngest Polytechnic University in Spain. However, engineering and business studies have a long tradition in Cartagena, dating back to the beginning of the last century in several of its schools. Currently, the university has more than 6,000 students with a very high degree of employability among its graduates.

Among its research groups, the UPCT has one specialised in microelectronic devices and design. Its lines of research focus on THz spectroscopy and optical characterisation techniques for materials and devices, electromagnetic characterisation techniques for RF/microwave/THz materials, automated electronic design, electronic and microelectronic circuits for computer vision, development and implementation of new photovoltaic devices, growth and characterisation of dielectrics for microelectronics, transistors based on semiconductor heterostructures for high frequency and high power applications, electronic and photonic instrumentation for astrophysical research, and microwave device design and fabrication.

AESEMI represents the main Spanish companies dedicated to microelectronic design and semiconductor manufacturing. One of its objectives is to promote the sector at national and international level, as well as to give visibility to all the companies that form part of the Spanish semiconductor and microelectronics technology ecosystem.
