The Complutense University of Madrid joins AESEMI

The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) joins the members of the Spanish Semiconductor Industry Association (AESEMI), which is a step towards the unification of the sector in Spain.

UCM, founded in 1499, has 26 faculties and 9 affiliated centres with more than 65,000 enrolled students. UCM is one of the largest universities in Spain and one of the top 6 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. Among its 26 faculties, it is worth highlighting those of Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Computer Science, which are responsible for the most semiconductor-related degrees such as Physics, Materials Engineering, Electronic Communications Engineering, or the degree in Computer Engineering. Also noteworthy are its master’s degrees in the area of semiconductors, such as the Master’s Degree in New Electronic and Photonic Technologies, the Master’s Degree in Nanophysics and Advanced Materials or the Master’s Degree in Systems and Control Engineering.

Regarding semiconductor-related research, UCM has more than 22 research groups covering aspects related to integrated circuit design in areas such as processor design, artificial intelligence accelerator hardware, space and automotive hardware and fault-tolerant systems, as well as advanced semiconductor materials, the manufacture and design of electronic devices, nanotechnology and other emerging technologies such as photonics and quantum technologies. In addition, UCM has several Research Support Centres with advanced facilities and equipment that provide services not only to Complutense research groups but also to companies and other public institutions, including a Clean Room, the National Electron Microscopy Centre, Ion Implantation Units, Cathode Sputtering and Lithography, among other techniques and instrumentation for the characterisation of semiconductor detectors, thin films, etc.

For its part, AESEMI represents the main Spanish companies dedicated to microelectronic design and semiconductor manufacturing. Its objective is to give visibility to all the companies that form part of the semiconductor and microelectronics technology ecosystem in Spain and to promote it nationally and internationally.
