ICFO, the Institute of Photonic Sciences, new member of AESEMI

ICFO joins forces with the Spanish Semiconductor Industry Association (AESEMI) to collaborate in boosting the ecosystem in Spain.

The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) is a research centre in photonics-based sciences and technologies. It has three driving programmes in the areas of Health, Energy and Information, the latter covering photonic chips, quantum photonic chips and their applications for telecommunications, information management, sensors and lasers, with a strong focus on technology transfer.

ICFO was founded in 2002. It currently hosts 450 people and is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading reference centres in its field. The institute plays a leading role in major European Commission programmes, such as the Graphene Flagship and the Quantum Technologies Flagship, as well as in numerous Horizon Europe projects, hosts several industrial laboratories and has created 11 spin-off companies.

For its part, AESEMI represents the main Spanish companies dedicated to microelectronic design and semiconductor manufacturing. Its objective is to give visibility to all the companies that form part of the semiconductor technology ecosystem in Spain and to promote it nationally and internationally.
